Long time listener, first time caller
« on: December 10, 2011, 05:31 pm »

Hello,

I have been coming to this site for a long while, and have been following this mod for as long as I can remember.  I quickly got tired of the Vanilla EaW so I have been playing this mod for a very long time.  I have installed this game on my PC no less than 5 times and figured that I should just keep it installed since I always come back to this game.  When I first read of the "Era" idea I was so excited.  Even though I had to wait years to play it, I feel it will be more than worth the wait.

I understand the strains trying to produce a quality product with limited time and resources in the realm of the online world.  I took on a massive map making project for Final Fantasy XII - International Zodiac Job System 2 years ago and it about killed me.  What I thought would take a few weeks turned into months....  Being a perfectionist didn't help, and I still wasn't 100% happy with the final product. Though players of the game where elated since it was a Japanese only release and no information on chest contents was available in a visual form anywhere other than Japanese only web sites that Google translated fails miserable at...  I hate to think of how much worse this project must be with it being such a public thing.  I imagine you get very tired of hearing "When is it going to be released?" So on that note much respect to this team!

Star Wars; I have been a fan pretty much my entire life.  I vividly remember being 4 years old and Star Wars IV - A New Hope (at the time just Star Wars) was first being showed on Showtime. My father grabbed me and told me; Son you HAVE to watch this movie.  He had the luxury of seeing it in the theater, I however was only was negative 4 months when it was first released.  I did however see Return of the Jedi on the first day of its initial release in theaters in 83'. So yes I am old.

As far as Star Wars games, I have to say my favorites are the Rogue Squadron series for N64/Gamecube.  I absolutely loved that series.  Knights of the old Republic were very good too, as well as the X-Wing / Tie Fighter PC games.  There have been others but those three stand out to me as being some of the best. I got into RTS back in the C&C and Warcraft days (the originals, again I show my age).  I always thought of how awesome it would be to have a Star Wars RTS.  They tried to do it a few times, Force Commander, and that civilization type one.  However they always seem to fall so utterly short of a game that deserved the title "Star Wars".  Then Empire at War came out.  At first I was like,"here we go again".  So obviously I bought the game, though my expectations weren't all that high.  I am so glad I did.  I was so impressed with the game.  The fact they included both land and space is what sold me on this game.  I played it solid for a few months but in the end I shelved it.  I didn't really think of looking for Mods, but at the time I don't think there were any.

One day out of the blue I had the urge to play it again.  I went online looking for the newest patch and found Ultimate Empire at War.  I was like "oooo what's this?" I read what it was all about and quickly downloaded and installed it.  Needless to say I was in that group of "Where is the Era selection?" After reading it wasn't done I began to play the mod as it was.  I was really impressed by it, the new ships was a welcome addition.  After that each time I got the urge to play EaW it was always the UEaW mod that I played.

A few weeks ago I got the urge to play again, but was tired of the SSD's and all that, and I wanted to try something new, that was still in the EaW world. I tried Phoenix Rising awhile back and I wasn't impressed.  Grand battles that took forever to kill anything aren't my cup of tea.  I never did have a land battle on that mod.  I am sure a lot of people like it, I however did not.  Then I found Republic at War, which I am currently still playing.  It is such a nice mod, and the fact that it is hard is a breath of fresh air, since the Vanilla was so pathetically easy.  Even though I am not currently playing this mod, and am still eagerly waiting for V1's release, and needless to say when it is released I will be playing that.  From what I have read and the screenshots I have seen it looks amazing.

Like I said above I have been coming here forever, always keen on any updates.  I only just recently made an account since from what I gathered V1's release should be relatively soon.  I truly hope V2 will be released as well as I do enjoy land battles, though not as much as space.  Though I know you all have lives outside EaW and time is at a premium, not to mention you are working with such a small team.  To me it makes it that much more impressive of what you have been able to accomplish.

I am a writer by trade, and currently working on my first novel.  Writer, not an editor so please excuses any grammatical errors in this post.... I live in Oregon and with that a ferocious fan of the Oregon Ducks,Trail Blazers, and yes even the Beavers... The last few years have been hard on me, after having a job ending back injury I have been pretty much sidelined.  Which is why I decided to go back to my first calling, being a writer.  Seems I wrote a small book here.

At any rate I want to thank the team for all its hard work, putting up with the nagging "When is it going to be released" questions, as well as any snide remarks from people.  I generally don't post much, but when I do I tend to say a lot.  Needless to say I have been watching for a long time on the sidelines.

Thanks Again,
Tirpitz

Wilkommen!

I've been here for several years (I think three), faithfully waiting for the mod to be completed.  :P

It's always nice to have a new member join, and hey, I like to write too!  I've never actually written a book but a lot of people have told me I'm talented.

Tirpitz Luminare, welcome to forums.

Galactic Battlegrounds is the civilization type game you were referring to, and you are definitely right, it lacked something to be desired.

Don't give up on Phoenix Rising just yet, you were almost certainly playing Phoenix Rising when it was v1.1 or maybe even v1.0, and yes those versions were somewhat flawed. Phoenix Rising v1.2 will be a lot better, the campaigns are being optimized to perform better, and the first stages of a land combat overhaul similar to the existing space combat overhaul is also underway.
