Random Eye-Candy (UEaW Forums Exclusive)

I have lots of stuff to show you. I'm not going to show you all of our models, secrets and eye-candy - BUT, as I alpha test, I'll be updating this thread with a few tantalising in-game shots. The content in this thread will (at least for the most part) be only released to UEaW forums; eye-candy for those who visit us and play an active part instead of sitting around on Moddb!

Starting today, with shots of Geonosis in tactical combat - not many ships to see (in fact, just some very zoomed out ARC-170s, so you can't see the detail, and some X-Wings with their engines powered down since they're inactive), however this is irrelevant, because what is new in these shots is the setting. Today, I finished re-mastering the stardomes - the backdrops that include the stars and the nebulae that overlay them - and they are now not only more detailed, but less blank, far nicer looking and generally far more exciting in terms of their contrast, colour and depth. I hope you agree!

The first shot is taken from cinematic, a squadron of T65 X-Wings, engines powered down since they are holding position, over Geonosis:


The second is non-cinematic, but I think is just as nice, even if you can see the player interface - especially with the planet in view. And, the planet's texture hasn't been re-mastered yet, so expect improvement by the time of release!



As a little extra (I edited this 10 minutes after initial post to add this afterwards, since I love it so much :P), Evilbob has got quite some way into skinning and rigging the Sith Starbase that I showed the GIF of in the last blog. This won't be released to Moddb et cetera for a few days; you get early viewing! This is how she's looking so far. Smexy:

LTCC these are amazing. I can't believe that after so many years V1 is finally right there on the horizon. Cannot wait to ply it myself though i already know i will not be beta testing for two reasons. One: I don't feel like i have been here long enough to actually deserve to. Two: I would prefer to play it the first time at the most top notch experience i can.

Thanks, and if you did want to beta-test, you could always apply for beta-2, but if you want the tested and refined thing; V1 should be out this September!

I said I'd continually update, and I'll do so again now - I've just finished re-skinning and making new normal maps for the clouds - you can of course see clouds swirling around planets in-game (both GC and tactical), but their vanilla textures and their resolution of these were just as bad as the original planet textures. I've replaced these with brand new textures, made of actual cloud patterns of Earth from space, and just applied them, so this is Geonosis actually re-skinned, with proper detailed clouds - I made this shot a high-resolution one, too:




Now I can continue to reskin other planets, since clouding is in order.

Update: I just finished the re-skinning of Coruscant/Urban style planets. This is one of my favourite so far; you can now see the cities and the surface instead of having dull and not very contrasted, colourless urban worlds!

This one is not in-game, rather a shot of the Venator in aloviewer; she now has her engines and is being rigged (it's a long process for such a grand ship!) - part the way through doing the damage effects for in-game, and thought I'd show you this; Venator after taking a little bit of a battering from enemy fire - yes, your eyes see right, that's atmosphere venting from the hull :) :

Wow. Thats like five times more effect then in the vanilla FOC. To actually have atmosphere leaking from the hull. Thats amazing LTCC. The damage shots look great. Keep up the good work and keep the models coming.

This is the Venator in 3ds Max or blender...so unscaled. So the smokes will be probably a little bit smaller ingame...but remember: if you destroy a weapon hardpoint, the whole rest of the ship won't breakup...just a small part!

Okay, the venator at the image is 1789,8 metres long. This means, there are ~600 metres to much. So it will be scaled down, which means, that the damage particles will be scaled up in relation.

Moar is at hand. Here she is, Venator coded and rigged, and in-game engine. A few little things off:

- You'll see the edges are fuzzy. They're not in-game, it's just because this is taken from map editor, there is no v-sync or anti-aliasing
- The engine particles have been since scaled slightly better, but that's irrelevant in this picture since their light auras are intended to stretch beyond the engine shrouds.
- The turrets will be made bigger (edit addition, it seems they need moarness)

So, all turrets on, systems are go! :

That Venator be trollin'...I know a great many Venators and none of them have such small...bits. You know, the turrets. Those things :D

Its superb, love it. Though i prefer the front section to the back, thats because of the map editor fail. It makes the lights look terrible.

Man V1 is gonna be amazing. I mean i've been downloading mods so i had other XMl's then just the originals to mess around with and learn on and V1 of this still looks so much better then all the other mods in completed form.

It's not even one I've fully re-made yet; Jabiim has (as you'll notice) simulated 3D clouds now with far more detail and depth of sight, but I haven't reskinned her surface.

The MC90 is significantly lower down than the broadside in that shot, hence the latter seems so big. (that said, the broadside is significantly bigger than in vanilla; we brought her up to her canon size which is surprisingly large).

I'm reasonably sure that an MC90 outguns an ISD I or II in a one-on-one fight... Basically, check wookieepedia. Also, no it won't be on the same plane as SSD, it's just a battleship like the ISD.

I don't know if it can out-gun an ISD II - we've coded it to have canon characteristics, but we've done so many ships I don't recall what tactical power the MC90 wields.

Distant nebulae. The maps in question have oranges and reds in their stardomes. If you look at vanilla there are similar things, but they're faint and pathetic :P... I re-made these effects so that maps have detailed surroundings, obviously not all this colour (just two similar ones I happened to test), but come in dozens of varieties.

Either that, or you changed so much of the game it doesn't use that much, if seemingly any, of the FOC's original files, either way it works great, right?

Found a fix for it anyway on the Lucas Arts website...apparently it had to do with RAM and 64Bit OS :/

V4 didn't use any of FOC - we started by copying its entire directory - which is why the 64bit fix had to be applied to UEAW as well as FOC cos we had copied the faulty file. This time around we have a good one because so many staff members are running 64bit now

Wow, these images look simply stunning. The difference between what I'm playing now and what I'm seeing here is just jawdropping. MUCH respect to all those involved in making this, although the orange background on Geonosis looks more like something out of StarFox than Star Wars, it's still absolutely beautiful. Now, I know this is my first post here (been having registration issues for what seems like a year) so this makes me the designated noob, but I do have one question. Hopefully it's not too intrusive or annoying.

After reading todays news, I know the Eclipse is not an important part of V1 and though re-scaled, it probably uses the same model as the current playable game. But I just want to know if the textures for it were changed because it always kinda irked me that the windows are so hard to see in comparison to the Executor which looks like a beautiful christmas tree of doom (lol, what a concept!).

Well, I guess I have 1 more question (though the more I type the more I feel this isn't the place for questions) involving the re-scaling... Did you increase the size of the cruisers or shrink the size oof the starfighters (or some combination of the two) because I'm kinda worried about just how much space you'll have on the map to move your stuff around. If these questions aren't answered, I completely understand. You guys are unbelievably talented, if only gaming companies would hire people like you to make sure their games are all they can be. you still require FOC - the FOC Exe still runs and performs its checks etc. we just didn't use any of FOC's actual data - on account of we copied the lot for V4 and edited that. V1 is 100% written from scratch but we will include everything because everything is radically different to FOC. But you will still need it installed.

You can't see, but that's the control ship variant, dotted with dishes and with a vast sensor array, she deploys swarms of slave-linked fighters that can only operate when receiving a signal from a carrier ship.

Is there even anyone following the Moddb page anymore?  Most people think we're dead...

Check again ;). I picked up the Moddb page a few days ago. 2 days ago we were the 5th most popular mod on Moddb, and in the last few days we've had thousands of views and dozens of comments. Indeed today, when no new media has been posted, we're still 17th out of 14,420 mods on Moddb and have had 525 views... And that's with all the attention on RaW.

Not fully anymore. A little bit modified by me (Rigging) and by frankie from FLAM. To be more precise - the dishes and sensor array were added by him.

A little snippet that I found nice - not as impressive as when watching the effects actually animate, but a nice little touch nonetheless: here V-19s are strafing the hull of a Munificent-Class Star Frigate, and we can see the peppering of tiny explosions impacting her shields in this picture. Looks even nicer when multiple squadrons cover an area of the hull :P



(the burst in front of the cruiser is not related, and is actually a burst fragmentation warhead from a Separatist flak shell used to target starfighters).

Have you checked our Moddb? It has a whole bucketload of media. Currently main balancing work is on the Galactic Civil War, I'll release some Pre-Ruusan Republic era shots when we get onto that era.

Man, I wish I had it now, as does the rest of the community here. So I just wanna say thanks for sharing all these images with us. I can't wait to see the finnal product on my PC, its like an unoffical UEaW 2, imho anyways. Now if only I could get a few friends as hooked on it as I am so we could have a huge SW nights.  :grin:

This has mod has been in development since 2006.  Basically right after the game's release, so no one really had a chance to think of a mod like this because there already was!

It's only been in development in its current form since around early 2010 or so; though the team itself and various old releases pre-date back to 2006 indeed.
