Random Eye-Candy (UEaW Forums Exclusive)

I have lots of stuff to show you. I'm not going to show you all of our models, secrets and eye-candy - BUT, as I alpha test, I'll be updating this thread with a few tantalising in-game shots. The content in this thread will (at least for the most part) be only released to UEaW forums; eye-candy for those who visit us and play an active part instead of sitting around on Moddb!

Starting today, with shots of Geonosis in tactical combat - not many ships to see (in fact, just some very zoomed out ARC-170s, so you can't see the detail, and some X-Wings with their engines powered down since they're inactive), however this is irrelevant, because what is new in these shots is the setting. Today, I finished re-mastering the stardomes - the backdrops that include the stars and the nebulae that overlay them - and they are now not only more detailed, but less blank, far nicer looking and generally far more exciting in terms of their contrast, colour and depth. I hope you agree!

The first shot is taken from cinematic, a squadron of T65 X-Wings, engines powered down since they are holding position, over Geonosis:


The second is non-cinematic, but I think is just as nice, even if you can see the player interface - especially with the planet in view. And, the planet's texture hasn't been re-mastered yet, so expect improvement by the time of release!



As a little extra (I edited this 10 minutes after initial post to add this afterwards, since I love it so much :P), Evilbob has got quite some way into skinning and rigging the Sith Starbase that I showed the GIF of in the last blog. This won't be released to Moddb et cetera for a few days; you get early viewing! This is how she's looking so far. Smexy:

UEaWfag delivers. Here - Republic forces over Geonosis, seen assembling, and later in combat, with a close up of an Acclamator, shields breached, taking direct impacts upon her hull. (forgive the clipping of dreadnaught and acc. in first picture.. It is alpha ;) ) :

Thanks, and if you did want to beta-test, you could always apply for beta-2, but if you want the tested and refined thing; V1 should be out this September!

I said I'd continually update, and I'll do so again now - I've just finished re-skinning and making new normal maps for the clouds - you can of course see clouds swirling around planets in-game (both GC and tactical), but their vanilla textures and their resolution of these were just as bad as the original planet textures. I've replaced these with brand new textures, made of actual cloud patterns of Earth from space, and just applied them, so this is Geonosis actually re-skinned, with proper detailed clouds - I made this shot a high-resolution one, too:




Now I can continue to reskin other planets, since clouding is in order.

Update: I just finished the re-skinning of Coruscant/Urban style planets. This is one of my favourite so far; you can now see the cities and the surface instead of having dull and not very contrasted, colourless urban worlds!

This one is not in-game, rather a shot of the Venator in aloviewer; she now has her engines and is being rigged (it's a long process for such a grand ship!) - part the way through doing the damage effects for in-game, and thought I'd show you this; Venator after taking a little bit of a battering from enemy fire - yes, your eyes see right, that's atmosphere venting from the hull :) :

Wow. Thats like five times more effect then in the vanilla FOC. To actually have atmosphere leaking from the hull. Thats amazing LTCC. The damage shots look great. Keep up the good work and keep the models coming.

This is the Venator in 3ds Max or blender...so unscaled. So the smokes will be probably a little bit smaller ingame...but remember: if you destroy a weapon hardpoint, the whole rest of the ship won't breakup...just a small part!

Okay, the venator at the image is 1789,8 metres long. This means, there are ~600 metres to much. So it will be scaled down, which means, that the damage particles will be scaled up in relation.

Moar is at hand. Here she is, Venator coded and rigged, and in-game engine. A few little things off:

- You'll see the edges are fuzzy. They're not in-game, it's just because this is taken from map editor, there is no v-sync or anti-aliasing
- The engine particles have been since scaled slightly better, but that's irrelevant in this picture since their light auras are intended to stretch beyond the engine shrouds.
- The turrets will be made bigger (edit addition, it seems they need moarness)

So, all turrets on, systems are go! :
