A Release Date (really!)
« on: May 19, 2010, 07:59 pm »

So, here it is. Shocking I know. If all goes well, Version One (Space Only) will be released in early to mid September.

That's it.

Not much more to say, except that now we have another coder (welcome cheesecake645!) we should actually be able to make this deadline. Hopefully.

Due to the word censor, i have been forced to search my limited vocabulary to find adequate words to describe this. Here goes...

I wish to express my shock and amazement towards the aforementioned fact, reacting with disbelief following my discovery of this thread. However, i then proceeded to experience a sensation of joyfulness and glee, celebrating the projected release date of Version 1 for the mod known as Ultimate Empire At War.

[How did i do Chris? Ill be happy with less than 5 significant errors :D ]

roughly how large will this be of an update (data wise) half a gig? maybe more? ( I'm wondering for the time it will take to download)

It will be big. It's not really an update, more of a whole new mod; a total conversion. It's going to be a lot, lot more than 1 GB, which is both a good thing - you're getting LOTS of content - but also a bad thing - the download time will be big. This considered, the updater probably won't be used, and we'll try make it available in different set-ups for those with different internet connections and time availabilities. Potentially:

  • Full Pack download (1 download, everything. For those with patience and bandwidth)
  • Two half packs that can be downloaded separately (for those with perfectly good connections but perhaps time restraints, or just don't want to be running the full thing over other activities)
  • Four quarter packs that can be downloaded separately (for those with bandwidth and speed limitations

I have a 2.0GHz dual core (which as far as the game is concerned is a 2GHz single core :sure ) and it currently runs fine. There are still a number of particles we need to optimise but it should be good by release.

plz read earlier posts in topic before answering questions., also more than 1 gb isn't that bad because if you play combat arms it takes around 5.5 GB with the newer version.

Installer =/= Updater.

The installer is the method UEAW chose for delivering V4 and was very popular, as some people lack the necessary knowledge required to write a batch file and manually move files. I'm pretty sure this will be used for V1.

The updater is the box which appears when you launch V4, automatically checking for a newer version of the mod. For the sake of download times, this will NOT be used for distribution of V1  and instead V1 will be available via traditional download methods.

This will be taken into consideration of course - many fans have been waiting years to hear news of progress and release, so they will get favourable chances of beta-testing. There won't be on open beta, simply because we intend to release V1 as a bug-free and balanced game without having to take mass reports from the community; we'd prefer a dedicated team of beta-testers instead.

Why hello there Chris! How are you today?

In all seriousness, im glad its a closed beta (which I won't be applying for) because I can imagine the forums being flooded for many months with glitches that have long since been resolved. I'm sure everyone is fine to just wait a little longer for the finished article. However, you might want to have a few places for people such as fan eaw who can just play the game instead of beta testing. Maybe ask for community applications to be separated into Beta tester applications and Pre-release applications (just two or three of the latter, people who just think they deserve to get to play it before others)
