Mapping Help
« on: March 12, 2010, 01:07 am »

Okay so im making a new map, but i wanted to make it one of the maps that is inside of a building, like the imperial vault level of FoC.

I was told on the Filefront eaw files that to acheive the effect of walls i should make a black and white PNG image in paint and load it as the height map.  well i did that and it doesnt work, i've tried every type of picture file i can save as, and none of them raise or lower the heigfht of the map.  here is the image:

The first thing you need to do is change the size of that image to match one of the map patch sizes. When you select a patch size, it tells you how many vertices there are on each side of the map. Make 1px = 1 vertex to give you the image size. Second thing: before you load up the PNG (it does need to be a PNG) set the max/min heights to something other than 0. Just setting the max height to some big number tends to work the best. THEN load the PNG and you should see the terrain deform. After that you can adjust the max/min values to get the heights you want.
