cosmic events

k i got this idea randomly today in art class

whatr if there were some uncontrolable cosmic events like asteroids n black whole gravity pull in space

and meteor showers on land

... just a thought

Well yes, random events that affect one's game environment with whatever effects could be coded, but it would be foolish to have them randomly happen in tactical battles..

If anything, these would be events that affect the player temporarily in strategic ways; such as damage to colonies; loss of sensor information, planetary disasters et cetera; adding a random element in.

This concept would be interesting, but there's some severe problems.

1. There's no real event randomizer code for that.
2. If they were to get close to a black hole [taking into account Star Wars science has not really talked about this] the ships would probably be pulled into the gravity mass.
3. It would be annoying.

Actually, they could probably be randomised like missions in the old EaW GCs were...

But could be potentially rather annoying.

Indeed, but could be quite tricky to code around in terms of forcing temporary effects.

I dunno.  If anything were to happen randomly I'd like the original EAWs random missions added back.  They added a nice additional layer of depth to the game.

Couldn't you warp the code for the AI defiler (which i am pretty sure is at random when it sabotages) to make it damage just like that, but not actually have to code the objects in on maps?


I think it would be much less annoying because there is not a weird red man behind it all, it's a force of nature.

the ZC is being cut but we are quite happy to use anything they had that can be used in other contexts. Corruption for example can be rebranded and given to all factions as other stuff

I agree to you there but the point is cosmic events not faction events....
Random black holes, stars exploding, other scientific mumbo jumbo that makes people sound like a genius....but they're not...

And I also agree with Solar, why waste time making something when another already built coding only needs slight modifications to do the same?

I dunno, all I know is that someone is suggesting cosmic events, which sounds good if it is NOT nearly as often as 'corrupt, corruption removed, corrupt, corrupt, corruption removed, corrupt X 5, Corruption removed.' As long as these cosmic events are more rare than common I see no problem. Makes a person think even MORE strategy, they have to find a work a round.

Even then there might be problems since the game's coding will need to pace out the 'corruption' events a lot longer, which I'm not entirely sure it can handle.

yeah this could go hand-in-hand with some other things too

maybe Kessel cold have a limited fleet cap becasue it is near the maw or something.

in terms of natural disasters/events maybe a planet could have an earthquake and a few units or at the very worst a building is destroyed

If this is implementable in code, it is likely to be featured to a small degree within the UEAW gameplay mode but not in the 'classic' mode in V1.1 that we elected to make by poll for those who can't cope with an epic game.
