I hesitated at doing this as not to offend the resident mappers, so I made something different. Instead of a technical guide to mapping, it is focused on applications and details. Good for people who just can't seem to get their maps to look good. Includes a small, non functional map with some examples for beginners to take a look at and sap ideas from (which is why I put it onto filefront.

On the tutorial:

A well written tutorial that brings up a lot of good mapping points. It's good to see recommendations for prop usage and height variations. Too many maps are made flat and empty. One point in the tutorial I could help with: forests. There is a tool in the map editor called the scatter brush, which makes placing forests much easier. It also gives a use for the otherwise-redundant object list and the settings box below it. Using the scatter brush and a sensible selection of objects in the object list, you can make realistic forests very easily. If you want more info to add it to your next tutorial (I assume you don't know about it already) just add me on MSN.

of course i made alot of test maps for the diffferent envoirnments, but i can use this to further thge uality of my later maps.

Doh! Thanks evilbobthebob! I totally forgot about the scatter brush! Ill put that in as an addendum when i put up my next one on making bases.
