Modding Discussion Forum Guidelines
« on: January 11, 2007, 09:15 pm »

This is the Modding Discussion Forum, where members may discuss modding of games (including but not exclusive to EaW/FoC); share and show their own work and discuss other mods.

This forum may be used for:

  • Discussing or reviewing mods, modding news and mod-related work.
  • Advertising your mod, and recruiting for it.
  • Posting your work in attached .zip or .rar files. These must be free of malicious software and any other things that the UEaW Forum Rules forbids in your forum posts.

This forum should not be used for:

All members, please:

  • When reviewing or discussing other modifications, do not be rude or insulting about them. If you dislike a mod or aspects of a mod, you are free to say so, but remember that they are products of someone's time and effort, no matter what the end quality and it is counter-productive to be offensive about their work.

  • When discussing the work of others who have shared their work - for example a map they made - any criticism should be constructive. Whilst some may be better than others, there is no need to put people down without helping. All criticism in this board should be friendly and, where possible, offering a solution to the problem.

Those whose mods or work are discussed, please:

  • Ensure that any work (such as maps, code et cetera) that you post to show off is your own work. If you use any work from another in your work or are posting the work of another, make sure that you have their permission and acknowledge them in your post. If you are advertising your mod, we consider that it is safe to assume that you have implicit permission from your team-members to show their work, however if they explicitly revoke any such permission or you attempt to claim it as your own personal work, this is in breach of the guidelines. Violations of this guideline will be dealt with as if they were rule violations.

  • When receiving feedback on your work or mod, take comments - both positive and negative - like an adult and a gentleman. We cannot enforce that you are humble, nor would we try to, but as a guideline, being humble in praise and attentive to criticism will not only go down well with forum members, but also set an example to any members who fail to follow our guidelines on constructive criticism.

  • Give and take. If people ask about how you did something, please try to help them. If a particular technique or feature is a production secret of a mod, not revealing this is understandable, however otherwise, please try to answer queries about your work for the advancement of the community. In return, when people review your work, feel free to use the resource that our community is to get feedback on whatever aspects of your work you wish, and take any constructive criticism as help. This ideally should be a mutually beneficial arrangement.

Thankyou.
