Modding Tutorials
« on: January 11, 2007, 09:03 pm »

In the coming weeks, I will be compiling a list of modding tutorials for those seeking help.  If you have a modding tutorial that you would like added, please post a thread in this board with the tutorial.  If it is a tutorial that you are linking to and not your own, PLEASE POST IT IN THIS THREAD, NOT AS A NEW THREAD.

This forum is NOT for asking help.  Any modding help threads in this forum will be moved to the modding help forum.

I've read that tutorial before when I first used Mike.nl's editor. It's really useful. And spelt correctly (Unlike certain official map editor tutorials I could mention  :sure)

Try getting good at Blender using the Blender Noob to pro guide, then all will be clear. Or most things, at least. Go to
Quote
www.blender.org
, clikc on the Documentation link, then you should see a link to noob to pro.

It's an open-source, free graphics creation software. It can animate, skin, export to many formats, and has a built in game engine and renderer.

well, 3ds max costs money, lots of money. it also uses the alo file thingy to create the .alo game files.

blender as stated before is free, and has a built-in game engine. and can only convert to 3ds file types. not .alo's

but yeah, very similar to 3ds max  :)

so you can change it  to 3ds and then change that to alo?

ok well idk where this should go, but i really want to get into modding, i really think i have some great ideas, they are drawn out and two of my planned models are also sculpted out, and i really wish to contribute to ueaw. if it's too late to join as a modder or anything, then i would gladly just give my drawings and ideas to ueaw and maybe make this mod even better than it already is=)

Edit: the models are for the Empire for those curious people, they are 3 variants of a star destroyer, and a cruiser.
no names have been given yet, open for suggestions=)

As you can see, it's called the "Warspite", based off the Royal Navy ship from Great Britain.

XML and LUA are game codding languages. XML is the main code used to mod. Look around a bit and you'll find some good XML Turtorails. As for LUA, oddly some people find it challanging and confusing. I know of no tutorails for LUA. If i find the motivation, I'll find something to LUA code and post a tutorail on it  ::).

As for mapping, yes, it means making maps. It's probly the second easiest thing to mod, the first damage numbers and what not in XML. However, the question is: How good can you map?

If you even need anymore help, post it in the "Modding Help" section, Ok?

If we had Karma or rep I'd have to mark that down.

it

a) only provides basic information about file extraction
and
b) provides false and bad practice information on how to implement mods.
