This is my Idea. How about we can built a trench network on some planets? Similar to WWI.

Sorry if this was Brought up before.

So, you want trenches that infantry can go into and take cover in? Sounds cool to me.

except that infantry stay in formation and so the trenches would have to be very wide and they would also prove problematic for tanks like the AT-AT which would look silly trying to go over these trenches. We can make more fortifications and garrisonable buildings but trenches are a no no.

YEAH THIS SOUNDS TO MUCH LIKE BUNKERS, but if you took the bunkers out of the game then were getting somewhere because i think bunkers are to weak.

yea, but trenches would make the take cover idea make more sense. usually all they do is crouch down. trenches could be their, and infantry can only use them in the take cover abbility, and big things could still walk over them.

ah, I remember I once tried to make a bunch of trenches for infantry and stuff. didn't work out very well.

IF we could SOMEHOW make realistic trenches and stuff that would be freakin' cool and I'd give this idea a 10/10

well we could model the trenches and entrench them with sand banks or whatever, which would make them destructible and realistic on the game mechanics

actually, a sand wall could be modeled, like the destroyable walls already in, but weaker. trenches though, would glitch up when tanks tried to pass over them. the game would try to animate it going inside the trench at the same time as them going straight over it and would flicker in between the two animations. also, it would be more likely for infantry to get stuck there.

Make them wide? Like how the Allies had large artillery trenches in WWI?

this isn't WWII. tanks would still glitch up, as they were not modeled to go that steeply into the land, and infantry would still get stuck, as well as looking funny, becuase they were not intended to walk up such steep of a slope. i think the only one that would work would be the simple mound trenches as walls.

Don't know if this is possible but maybe tank could just go over them. The Germans did that in the battle of Stalingrad.

OK, maybe a tank engineer that can lay plank boards so the T4-B or what ever can go over? (non WWI/WWII inspired)
