LAAT/i
« on: August 13, 2008, 12:09 am »

The LAAT/i was a troop transport/assault gunship in the clone wars. This unit could be used as a field transport/air speeder/lancet.

An LAAT/i during the Battle of Geonosis.

Sorry if this was already discussed but i could NOT find anything,
Thanks,
~aceofhicks

Heck yeah! It played a vital role. Could act as a troop transport.

I don't believe it's in the list or that it is modeled. Which means weve skipped something very important.

Being honest this is kinda an obvious unit, it had a massive role in the clone wars like the AT-TE so I imagine it will be in the mod

This sounds like it'd be a Republic version of the Rebel's flying transport........

I think it should only have three or five garrison slots to balance out the weaponry it carries.

I'm thinking that, too, since it could then easily be a floating battle platform if we gave it the size of the Rebel Flying Transport hold.

in BattleFront II the rebels in space get one of these for use as the troop transport.

identical. Basically Lucas Arts just copied it over for them, instead of making something new and intuitive.

What i am saying is that it shouldn't really be considered canon.

The LAAT/i in question is the Old Republic one. We all know the one for the Rebels is a cheap way to be lazy and get BFII out faster, but we need the OR one. It is G-canon.

So what if they make it just as the troop and vehicle transport ships, rather than a playable ship in battle, because that is really the purpose it served...load up...get into the battle...drop off..get out of there...load up...get in..drop off...get out..and over and over again....

That was only part of its job. It also had the strong laser balls at the sides of the ship, and the rockets. It could serve as a support unit, but then it would also have to cut down signifigantly on its ability to transport troops.

those were for defense as it transported the troops....besides the clones will need a cannon drop ship, and i think this gives it to them...

If you watch AOTC again, during the invasion of the clones, although they used the ball turrets for defense, they also used them for offense, alongside the missiles, which is where my argument comes from.

it should have a garrison of 3 clones, so that it can still be used to attack targets, and it gives your opponent a chance to use the anti aircraft guns, because ive played this game for a while on every difficulty and i have yet to be bombed, the only thing ive used it for are those damned speeders, and ive only fought those 4 times. and as an extra, you could have one as a hero, minor or major wich ever but in the clone wars cartoon, they had a group of badass clones that fought greivous, and whats a group of kick butt clones, without a kick butt gunship?

ok, now here is my problem.

There are 3 different ideas in this thread.

1. use LAAT like Lancet
this was rejected by you and i agree.
2. Use LAAT/i as a trasnport.
This is a good idea but you are yet to decide on weapons. i say use it as the drop ship and be done with it.
3. Use LAAT/c for AT-TE
Again i say use it as a drop ship.

The LAAT should also be a tank on its own, perhaps make it like the snow speeders

you could make the LAAT like a flying Juggernaut, meaning a well armed transporter. If it has at least a garrison or not is less important...

or (don't know if this can be done) making like an flying AT-AT: heavy armed tank, moving not as quick as snow speeders with the ability of sending out a company clones

p.s.: is there already another transport vehicle for the clone wars era?

the laat was one of the most important support vehicles in the era, if we just leave it as a transport, it will lose a lot of its powers and stuff, i liked the idea of making it like the at at, because thats pretty much what it was. a flying tank. (as big as a battleship lol)

its not supposed to be uber. Perhaps it would mainly use its two primary front cannons along with delayed bursts of the laser turrets, and have the rockets as its special ability

perhaps another special ability would be to fire a continuous stream from all its cannons made to look similiar to the proton beam from the lancet.

I'd just think a LAAT that can carry an AT-TE would do, as the AT-TE is slow as molasses.

the LAAT was a gunship.  It was heavily armed.  It was not a simple dropship.  It could function like one but in essence it is an atmospheric gunship

Actually, it can travel at 60 KPH

Maybe we could use the missile launchers not only as a strength but a weakness. If you hit the hardpoint on the missile launcher, they destroy the craft?

it's how you're not going to make the LAAT an ubber-unit...

or just making the armour quite weak and without any shields. Maybe this is not really canon but for gameplay...

perhaps we give it a hardpoint like an energy cell that if you hit it disables the ball turrets special ability  leaving it with just the two main guns and missiles and if you hit the missile rack you disable that ability.

How about its weak against AA units? Sounds viable. LAAT = Yes its in.
LAAT/i= Should Only be able to carry AT-TE's, as canon.

I'm thinking that, too, since it could then easily be a floating battle platform if we gave it the size of the Rebel Flying Transport hold.
thats right!

oh and make it have point laser defence system ?  and green beams from the guns instead of er....blue? and approprite sounds?

the classic gunpod "DOOOOOFV" sound instead of "GILLLL-ZZZING!" ?
