WHY DOSENT ANYONE PLAY ONLINE!!!!!!!
I do with this one friend, AND IT IS AWSOME!!!!!!!
I just want for more people to play, help pass the time between releases, perhaps, i dont no, have a tournement see just who is the best.
dosent that sound interesting? and if you do want to play online, help spread the word and make sure everyone has the update found in
"4.0.6 nebula and eclipse fix" topic located in the mod anouncements section of the forum (srry to all those whose inteligence has just been insulted) so that we dont have version mismatches also if you mod on your own or mess with all the UEAW files then you will probably have a version mismatch. Please respond, the more i think of that tournament the more i cant w8 to crush you all.

mmm, it is a good idea, as the mod is really made for online play!

Not sure how to organise it though.

What about every sunday GMT, from 12:00 to 5:00 we all try and get online? we could make a saturday day if sunday is excluding people, but most poeple are free in the weekend.

simple and easy to remember. (obviously the times are flexible, don't cut short a match just to stay in time.)

then it could be announced in a post that is made sticky somewhere, we could even start today.

Yes organisation is a problem, but a bigger problem is that no one seems to care about online play once they get a mod, i didnt untill i found someone to play with that I didnt have a version mismatch with. And solar, thats a good idea i cant even think of another way to do it so howabout
we spread the word for a week or two, see how many people play, then organize the first tuornament, having the leader of it record all the scores of all participants who would have to enter somehow... complicated. for now we should just boost awarness and decide on a leader, i would do it but i express concern about people caring what one youngling says so.... if its not to much trouble i nominate Ross of other staff... perhaps you solar?
and for the recording of the enterants to the tournaments i could make a chart on word or excel and record names, but there is atill the problem of when to have the matchs, perhaps one round one a saturday and the next on sunday in it dosent exclude people. it all depends on how many people want to participate.... just spread the word while i give my brain a brake... after all it is sunday.

Just don't like multiplayer for strategic games.
I love building up things, breaking, leaving, coming back later etc.
Trying out stuff etc.
Online wargames tend to be hectic, rushed and tactics pop up that abuse certain elements of the game which spoils the fun in my experience.
But i can understand why some people love it as when you find a good player it can be challenging and fun.

How about skirmishes only, we spend saturday and sunday fighting and then on monday people send their scores in. each match nominates someone to send in the scores. then we have two people to have scores sent to, Land and Space. then they each produce an Excel spreadsheet and it get's made available for download. this is put in the announcements section and stickied, with the 2 links being updated weekly. that way we can all see who got on how. and if we all make an effort to get online it should be fun and help us to really gain experience in the game.

This way there would essentially be no tournament, wioth no prize at the end, just online play. how it should be. no rules but the game rules.

If this is okay then we can start in the weekend.

if we need to allocate a certain time frame so that more people are online at once then just say and we can try and work one out.

Enjoy

I really should do Skirmish more often lol but i bought EAW for the galaxymap element. But maybe i should try it out a bit more. Though on that level solely i prefer DoW usually but it may be a nice change of pace.

How about skirmishes only, we spend Saturday and Sunday fighting and then on Monday people send their scores in. each match nominates someone to send in the scores. . . . . .

could go further, save the recording of the match and send that in too (for authentication), also could be used to share strategies, making trailers for the mod, etc.
though...
1. i don't know where they are saved
2. would it work by just downloading it and putting it where it belongs

-yeah i know they don't save as a video, but could play it in UEAW from saved matches

ok, so solar i like your idea, but i wonder about honesty of the players, but we should try it, lets boost awarness about this(any ideas how will be excepted other than sending in vedio recordings, i dont think people will know how or want to do that no offence battlefront) and have the games 11/3/07 to 11/4/07 next week and then post the scores as you said, solar, and galactic commander can post the final record board thing with the results. galctic would you plz let the players send the results to you in a pmail, or maybe ill start a thread for them to post results and one for you to post the final result type monday updates, it would be a great help. and perhapse a third thread for land entries by players? confusing.

how about a simple step by step plan, plz message if you agree,
step 1, i make the 2 places to have players send in match results one for land, one for space to make it easier for galactic
step 2, solar you make the aouncment section idea of yours without its two links, only title it multi player game/match results and thats where galactic should post results
step 3, after spreading the word we have the first weekend battle and have galactic record all the results etc.

just a thought to boost awarness, maybe we could pmail lots of people though that is annoying, or maybe ross could somehow give this multiplayer thing some special attention? and if enough people play thenperhapse a part of the website devoted to multiplayer, this is probanly wishfull thinking... but if we spread the word it could happen

Ps are website changes up to you ross?

I got a PM as well.  I'm not sure if Ross will like this becuase he will be deviating time from the mod to upload matches each week on the site.

BTW, Nice to see you again Phoenix.

i have an Idea;

Ill Talk to Ross, and ill see if i can get a new section on the Forums for Purely Mutiplayer Stuff, a Main Board for general mutiplayer discussion, making matches, etc, and then child boards for Skirmish Space, Skirmish Land, and GC, and OTHER SW Mutiplayer Games, and ill tell him one further, ill personally keep it under control and all that

(note to other admins/GM: put input in on this)

i can't be bothered to organize a match with poeple cos it much easier just to join one.

srry to bother those who dont care, srry if dont care seems to harsh. solar yes we should set up a time howabout ... i dont know im drawing a blank here for time ideas, i just dont know when the best time is to have it, im usualy available all day sat and sun, perhapse a poll? but for now untill the results of that poll i say we play with no time limit other than saturday and sunday. im going to continue the pming to get out the word. srry if it bothers you. and thanks doro. thanks a lot i think that would solve all location problems and help get this movement noticed!

Sounds like an idea Doro. also see if u can get a small section in the multiplayer section for glitches and problems that happen while playing online... so that we have not only the troubleshooting, where i get more campaign and GC related problems, but also a multiplayer problems board for those glitches that still havent been found.

(btw, im on week 5 of 11 in college... free time is coming soon)

easy, you just take your digital video camera and set it up on a tripod....just kidding that would be rediculus... (but would technically work)

now the real reason for this post...
i asked before but didn't really get an answer.
after an online match you can save the replay that you can play as a video in UEAW (check saved matches on the load screen). where does it save these files?, because you could post these as proof/ a video (i know not really a video, but would play as one in UEAW when put in the right folder)

so where are they saved so we can save them after the match, find them, post them, download them, and watch em!

When you next save a match, make a note of what you called it. then just set a search in the lucas arts folder for say:

(matchname).*

this will find all file types(as we don't know what the file type is) with that name. if it fails just serch the whole C drive

the 12:00pm to 5:00pm thing sounds cool, though could we change that to say.... GMT-3hrs or something? that way I have until 3:00pm to get in a game, and it shouldn't take too much time off of European schedules either.

anyway every weekend if I can I will host a UEAW game sometime within that time limit

I play online all the time but hardly battle because setting up a battle is as hard to some as building a card house on a windy day.   :sure  But I enjoy meeting up with people—primarily from here—and playing.
